In GABN, New Pastors

In September, GABN welcomed five new pastors and church planters into our network: Mandy Fernandez of the Rock Church, Matt Dye of M28, Kevin Cuthbertson of First Baptist Chattahoochee, Chad Williams of HighView Church and Jongill Lee of Logos Mission.

Below is our interview with Chad Williams, Planting Pastor of HighView Church in Villa Rica.

Q –  Why Atlanta?

A – Our church is located about 25 miles west of Atlanta in Villa Rica. The western suburbs of Atlanta have seen a great number of churches die over the last decade with many more churches in decline. Our particular town has seen a substantial increase in population over the past few years and with it, an growing number of lost and unchurched. We are praying that HighView Church is just one of many church plants that God will put here, in West GA, in the years ahead.

Q – What can you tell us about your church?

A – Roughly a year ago HighView Church started as a bible study with about ten people meeting in an apartment complex here in Villa Rica. Over this past year God has grown our core group to include about 45 people with as many as 75 attendees. This summer we formally constituted our church and began a process of membership classes and interviews. Recently we formally confirmed our first class of 22 members. Our current location is in a small chapel here in downtown Villa Rica that only seats about 45 people at a time, which has meant as many as 30 people have to sit outside during worship services. We are in the process of moving into a storefront, which will hold as many as 125 people at a time. We expect to move very soon. Our church has many 20 and 30 something’s and young families but God has recently brought a couple of older families that have truly blessed our congregation. About 70 percent of our members are either new converts or have spent the past three or more years out of church altogether.

Q – Why GABN?

A – We became aware of GABN through a relationship we have with Mount Vernon Baptist Church. What excites us the most about joining GABN is the passion that this local association has for church planting in the metro Atlanta area. At HighView Church we are praying that God would create and cultivate a church culture that sees church planting as essential. We seek to foster partnerships within GABN that allow us to promote church planting in a variety of contexts. We believe that the local church IS what God is doing in the world and we view our relationship with GABN as a way for us to come alongside other local churches to see more local churches planted that, in turn, desire to make disciples and plant even more churches.

Q –  How did you come to Christ?

A – I first made a public profession of faith in Christ when I was twelve years old. I spent the next eight years of my life with very little, if any, visible evidence of regeneration in my life. In fact, I came to discover that I had not truly been born again. When I was 20 years old, God began to do a mighty work in my life through the study of Scripture that led me to fully repent of my sins and place my faith in the finished work of Christ for salvation.

Q – What led you into pastoral ministry?

A – Throughout my late teens and early twenties I had developed a love for teaching. For a total of twelve years I worked for Chick-fil-A and traveled all over the country training leaders in various stores. About seven years ago, while working in Arizona for Chick-fil-A I begin to feel called to pastoral ministry. I knew it would be impossible to continue my career path at Chick-fil-A and through much prayer and counsel made the difficult decision to leave my position and entered the ministry. Once I began serving in various ministry roles I knew there was no going back, and I have seen God’s faithfulness and graciousness toward me in countless ways since.

Q – What can you tell us about your family?

A – About 16 months ago I married the love of my life. My wife, Kalie, is a truly amazing person. She has previously served as a long-term missionary to China and currently works for Operation Mobilization in marketing and development. She has been such a wonderful helpmate throughout the planting process, and I truly can’t imagine planting this church without her 24/7 support. We have a dog named Piper and we live just north of Villa Rica. I am also blessed with a very supportive mom and dad who are members at HighView Church.

Q – How can we be praying for you?

A – Please pray that God would raise up leaders in our congregation. Pray that our church would be committed to being a biblical church. Pray that our church would be steadfast in the gospel. Pray we would be committed to doing things the right way according to Scripture. Pray God would save many sinners through our church plant. Pray we would equip the saints for the work of the ministry. Most of all, pray God would be glorified in and pleased with our church.

For my family and I, I would ask you to pray that God would keep our marriage strong and healthy in the midst of the busyness that often comes with church planting. Pray our marriage would be rooted firmly in the gospel. Pray that God would keep me from sin. Pray that God would grant me wisdom and discernment in leading this flock He has entrusted to me.
